The History of Eine Welt der Vielfalt Berlin e.V.
A World of Difference, Berlin Association

Eine Welt der Vielfalt Berlin e.V. (EwdV) is based on the A World of Difference program.
In 1913, a Jewish man was falsely accused of a crime. During his trial, he was carried off and lynched by a mob. Members of the B’nai B’rith (Hebrew: Sons of the Covenant) organization then founded a civil rights organization, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

ADL recognizes that its priority of fighting anti-Semitism can only be successful when the rights of all people are protected. Human rights cannot be won just for some and not all. Owing to ethnic conflicts in 1985, the ADL Boston office developed A World of Difference program.
The central approach of the program is for educational institutions to work together with community organizations and the media. For this process, in 1992, A World of Difference Institute was founded. In Germany in 1992, after events in places such as Rostock Lichtenhagen, methods were looked for to deal with or prevent such outbreaks of violence. The Berlin Office for Foreign Affairs actively sought to bring programs to Germany which would help in this regard. In 1993, A World of Difference programs were started in Bremen, Rostock and Hamburg.

In 1994/5 in Berlin, the first trainers completed the program. In 1996, these trainers founded A World of Difference, Berlin Association / Eine Welt der Vielfalt Berlin e.V.
