Tolerance
can be learned. Intolerance can be unlearned.
Everyone knows what its like to be an outsider.
Everyone knows personally what
it means to be socially excluded. This
experience makes it easier to develop empathy.
Prejudice and discrimination are often based in / legitimized
by institutions.
Each form of oppression is different in both the amount
of institutional discrimination
and persecution as well as in the many
and varied ways in which discrimination and persecution
work.
We are not responsible for how we have been socialized
but we are responsible for what
we do about it today.
